Why would you want something as toxic as ammonia passing through valuable parts of your body, such as where you pee from?

Ammonia in urine is an indication that the body is not well.  You could be exposing yourself to over 150 different degenerative diseases.

I hear many readers starting to panic about now.  Relax, you’re not dead yet. This situation is easily remedied.

In order to understand  how this ammonia got into the urine, we must first briefly discuss urine pH.  In grade school chemistry, we learned about acids and bases.  We also learned that the strength of acids and bases are measured on a pH scale from 0 to 14, where 7 is neutral.  Acids have a pH below 7, while bases (alkaline substances) have a pH above 7.

Urine is a great indicator of the pH level in the body, and can be used as an early warning for bad health.  Healthy urine is slightly acidic, at 6.4 to 7.0 pH.  pH paper, can be purchased, which will change color when peed on, to indicate the pH of the urine.  For testing urine,  pH paper that covers the range 5.5 to 8.0 pH, should be used.  Start peeing, then swipe the paper through the stream. The first pee of the morning is the best one to test.

As an experiment, for a week, eat a lot of red meat and other proteins. Eat meat every day, several times each day. At the end of the week, test your pH. It will likely be way outside the healthy range.  Don’t worry, you’re not about to die, yet.

The following week, eat no red meat and very few proteins. Instead, eat a lot of fruits (not citrus) and vegetables. These foods increase the body’s alkaline reserves.   Avoid obviously acidic things like coffee, tea and soda.  At the end of the week, your pH should be much closer to neutral.

So where does the ammonia come from?  Hang on, we’re not quite there yet.  But here’s a sneak peak — your body adds it to your pee, to save your ass.

If the body is too acidic, it will neutralize the acid by adding sodium, which it gets from the alkaline reserves.  If the body is way too acidic, and the alkaline reserves are low, there’s a problem.  Sorry, now you’re gonna die.  Just kidding.

This is when the body will start making ammonia.  Ammonia is a very strong base, which will neutralize the acidity in the body.  Calcium is taken from the body to produce ammonia.  That calcium will typically come from bones, which can lead to osteoporosis, weak brittle bones, tooth decay, and a host of other issues.

When ammonia appears in urine, the pH will read way high – a strong base.  Don’t be fooled by this pH reading – the body is very acidic, and that’s not good.

So what can be done?  Start by reducing the proteins eaten and increasing the vegetables.   Another very helpful solution is to significantly increase the amount of water drunk.  Water will dilute the acidity in the body. (More on this point in Urine: In All The Colors Of The Rainbow.)

I have not smelt ammonia in my urine in many many years, since I first learned about this connection to diet.  With the use of pH paper, it is easy to know when there is a problem, long before getting to the ammonia stage.

High body and urine acidity is very dangerous to health.  But with simple changes to diet, it can be completely controlled.

I should mention that there are other causes for high urine acidity and the presence of ammonia.  If changing diet does not eliminate the ammonia smell in a few days, see a healthcare professional.

“The Yellow Mississippi”
by I. P. Daily – Part 1
What’s that ammonia smell?

It felt as bad as it tasted, and I was tasting it every night. I didn’t know what to call it, I just knew that it had to stop.

I had Acid Reflux, aka Heartburn, aka GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). I wasn’t alone. This problem affects nearly 20% of Americans. Roughly 1 in 6 American adults will have a reflux episode at least once a month, while 1 in 23 (15 million people) suffer from it daily.

I did what any normal American would do. I called the family doctor. You guessed it. He gave me a script for the little purple pill.

I felt honored to be swallowing such a famous drug.

It helped. I felt better. The nightly rejection of my dinner by my stomach didn’t happen for almost 10 days. Rather than leaving well enough alone, my doctor informed me that my insurance would not allow me to stay on the little purple pill unless I tried a less expensive drug and it failed. So I did. It didn’t work. The burning and vomit came back that night.

No problem, “just give me more of them purple pills please”.

But this time they didn’t work. The symptoms were just as bad as before.

Conventional medicine’s answer to acid reflux is to chemically neutralize your stomach acid. This is the acid your body naturally produces in order to digest what you eat. But hey, if its causing a problem, let’s get rid of it, right?. Wrong!

When I started with the purple pills, I asked, “How long will I have to be on these?”
The doctor’s answer: “Probably the rest of your life.”
I immediately thought to myself, “Wrong Answer!”

I went to the doctor to have him fix the problem. Not only were the pills not working, but he had no plans to actually fix anything. I started looking for answers elsewhere.

Dr. James Barile

Fast forward a bit. I’m walking into the waiting room of Dr. James J. Barile N.D. I’m desperate. I had just given up on something else that had not solved my problem after 18 months. During that time, my problem deteriorated to the point where I had constant stomach pain.

My first questions to Dr Jim were, “How much and How long?” For “how long”, he said to give him 6 months. “Why not? That’s much less than the last 18 months.” I really didn’t care about “how much”. I was in pain. It just had to be affordable, which it was.

This began a process of tremendious education. For one thing, I learned that the cause of acid reflux is too little stomach acid. Take some food and put it in a dark warm place. Begin to digest it, but not all the way. The remaining food will start to decay. This decay produces gases in your stomach. As the pressure builds, it must find an escape. The valve at the top of the stomach can not resist against the excess pressure. It gives way and some gas escapes – a burp. If there is food above the gas bubble, that food and stomach acid can be push up your throat into your mouth – yum.

Standard Process Zymex IIPremier Research Labs, HCL

The correct solution was to help my stomach digest what I eat. This can be done with enzymes or with additional acid. Zymex II and HCL are two of the products I have used.

Both of the companies that make these products will only sell to qualified (trained) providers.  A qualified provider will help you determine how many of these all natural food products you should take each day.  Take too few and they won’t work.  Take too many and you’ll be pissing away your money, literally.  With these products I don’t worry about overdoses and bad side effects, like I would have to with drugs.  Both companies, Standard Process and Premier Research Labs, have tools to find  qualified providers in your area.

Just 4 months after that first day in Dr. Barile’s office, my acid reflux was gone.  I mean GONE.  I stopped consuming pills for it and was able to eat normally without the threat of projectile vomiting.  Can it come back? Yes.  I keep a bottle of HCL in the kitchen, just in case. The real root causes of why we have insufficient stomach acid is a topic for another day.  At this point I’m happy that the stomach pain, burning throat and horrible taste are gone.  My wellness was accomplished with natural food products, not drugs.

I’m not unique.  Do you want to get rid of your acid reflux?  You can!  Start seeing a qualified Holistic Healthcare provider today.

You deserve to be well.

I Was Honored To Be Swallowing Such A Famous Drug
But It Was Time To End My Acid Reflux

“Honey, come quick!”, hollered Sara.
“What’s wrong?” yelled John from the living room.

John had just sat down in front of the TV. It had been a long day, the dinner dishes were done, and it was time to relax. The last thing he wanted to do at this point, was to get off the couch.

“It’s Teddy. He’s burning up.”, cried Sara from the baby’s room.

John could hear her cries almost in stereo, with the baby’s room just down the hall to the right, and the baby monitor on the shelf to his left. This time he didn’t hesitate. He jumped from the couch. The sound of her words echoed in his head as he flew down the hall. It wasn’t the first time he had heard these words during Teddy’s short 4 month life.

John arrived at the baby’s room just in time to see Sara removing the digital thermometer from Teddy’s right ear.

“What’s his temp?”, he asked, in a much more empathic tone than normal.
“103.5” she answered, holding back the tears.
“I’ll get Mrs. Marcunus to watch Jim and Paul.” (Teddy’s older brothers). “Get him dressed.” John hurried out of the room. “Oh and call Dr. Beck. Tell him we’re on our way to the ER.”, he yelled back to Sara, as he was nearing the living room.

A few minutes later, they were speeding down the road to the hospital.

Teddy was born with a heart defect. This little baby boy, hanging on to life by a thread, had surgery at day ten. After the surgery the doctors prescribed steroids and antibiotics, lots of them.

Teddy’s plight is a lot like Kole’s. Kole was also born with a cardiac problem. It wasn’t long before respiratory complications were added to Kole’s hefty medical chart. Before Kole’s 4-month birthday, he had spent 2½ months in the hospital, more time than you and I, in our entire life times.

For the remainder of Kole’s first year, he was in and out of the hospital and emergency clinic. One more visit to the neighborhood clinic and he’d win a free raffle ticket for a Honda Civic.

Just past his first birthday, he was admitted to the hospital for, what turned out to be the “common cold” virus. There was nothing common about this cold for Kole. It got him an all-inclusive 5-day stay in the hospital.

Jennifer, his mom, was at her whit’s end. Her 1-year old baby boy was lying in a pediatric hospital crib, with tubes and wires all over his little body, again. Her friend Amber tried to talk to her about essential oils. But this was not the time or place for that conversation.

When Kole was stable and back home, Jennifer realized, “I have to figure something out.” Having Kole spend more time sick than well, could not be allowed to continue.

Jennifer had been involved with conventional veterinary medicine for over 20 years. Essential oils? What’s that, a better way to fry chicken? The doctor’s medicine is based in science. Its been proven that it works. Or does it? Kole wasn’t getting any better. She called her friend Amber.

It was a huge leap of faith the next time Kole had a fever. Jennifer tried the essential oils, but they didn’t work fast enough and she reached for the Infants’ Advil. The next time a fever hit, she was ready. She had prepared a spray bottle with a special mix of essential oils, just for Kole, which she applied to his chest and back. The fever broke. “Thank God. It Worked!” she thought.

Jennifer and Kole

Jennifer and Kole

Over the next 9 months, Kole didn’t need to visit the hospital or emergency clinic, not once! Thanks to the use of essential oils.

Jennifer had wanted the science and the studies. They’re out there, and I can show them to you. But more important than studies and trials is the fact that it works. It worked for Kole.

There are over 40 different essential oils, and countless blends, all with well-documented benefits, for every kind of ailment. There are also practitioners, trained and certified in the safe effective use of essential oils.

In the proper dilution, essential oils can be eaten, applied to the skin or inhaled. Inhaling essential oils is called aromatherapy. The oils can be used individually or mixed together into blends.

In order for essential oils to work for you, you must try them. It’s an essential step. But don’t start lighting candles for that essential oils bubble bath just yet. Like anything else, you need to know what you’re doing. Imagine what happens when too much cayenne pepper oil touches sensitive parts of your body. Ouch! That’s not burn’en love. Yet cayenne pepper can be very effective in alleviating muscle pain.

When I need an essential oils solution, my first step is to call Paige Clarke at Ascentia Holistics, Inc. Paige is a certified aromatherapist.

PaigeClarke.com

Some essential oils I use regularly:

  • Drink 2 drops Peppermint in an ounce of water, used to settle an upset/queasy stomach.
  • Wintergreen and Cayenne Pepper mixed in a savvy, rubbed into the skin for muscle pain.
  • 2 drops cinnamon oil in 12 ounces iced coffee. Who cares what this does for my health. It tastes heavenly.

I found these essential oil uses and many more, at EverythingEssential.me; a great “teach me about essential oils” site. With recipes I’ve used and know, I could order essential oils from myDoterra.  They are also available on the internet and from local health food stores.

doTerra Essential Oils

But it wasn’t long ago, the only thing I could think of to do with them was deep fry a turkey. If you’re like me, the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy web site, has a page to locate certified practitioners.

The use of essential oils has dramatically affected Jennifer’s life, and the lives of her sons. Essential oils can definitely help you and your family.

Find a practitioner; learn which essential oils are used for your ailments, and start using them.

You Deserve to be Well.
